Abstract
The detection of borderline hypertension on a clinical table requires a continuous follow up blood pressure checkings including some intensive medical observation along with a careful history taking. It is not so easy to find out the borderline hypertension in our everyday clinical table.
The author et al report the result of the blood pressure observation which responded to the different graded exercise amount according to Bruce Formular on 78 Korean outpatients at Se-Jong Hospital during 2 years period from January 1983. The author et al.had the following conclusions with above mentioned Treadmill Test.
1. The blood pressure resonse curves showed a significantly different pattern both in systolic and diastolic pressures among normotensive, borderline and hypertensive groups for their differentiations.
2. All 78 cases of the tests were performed without any single case of risk.
3. It seemed that still there is no clear-cut method to differentiate between the borderline and mild hypertension. However, the hemodynamic mode of the borderline hypertension is mostly due to the increased cardiac output which seems to be caused by the hyperactive response of beta-adrenergic receptor cells in the cardiovascular system to the serum catecholamines. Therefore, it is strongly emphasized that the measurement of serum catecholamine level will be the final clue to assess the diagnosis of the borderline hypertension along with the use of Treadmill Test.
